Welcome to the web site for Deprivation and Health in Scotland

In 1980 the Black report documented the marked inequalities in health that exist in Britain. In 1998 these inequalities are still a major concern, with the most deprived experiencing significantly poorer health than those who are more affluent. Deprivation and Health in Scotland - Insights from NHS data provides an up-to-date picture of the current patterns of health inequalities in Scotland. Through information about use of health services and information on causes of death, it illustrates the extent of health inequalities in the commonest diseases that affect the people of Scotland.
